Hair Extension Care Guide
HAIR EXTENSION WASHING + CARE GUIDE
- WASHING
Prior to washing, gently brush extensions to detangle. It is recommended to use a sulphate free shampoo (we can discuss recommendations with you!), focusing the shampoo on your scalp rather than on your extensions. Use a concentrated conditioner, focusing on the ends of your hair and extensions
Shampoo and conditioner should be applied to hair in a downward motion - do not twist, rub or scrub the extensions. After washing, squeeze excess water and gently pat dry with a towel
Do not use products that contain sulphate, sulphur, silicones or protein such as dandruff shampoo
- BRUSHING
When brushing hair extensions, it is recommended to use an extensions loop brush. Gently brush hair in a downward motion, beginning at the ends of the hair and gradually work your way up to the roots
- DRYING
Never twist or rub your hair extensions - this can cause hair to tangle! Extensions can dry naturally or be dried with a dryer. Dry your hair in a downward motioned ensuring that your roots are thoroughly dry. Failure to dry this area properly can cause excess oil or moisture build up which can cause the extensions to slip
- SLEEPING
Prior to sleep, brush your extensions thoroughly and plait to keep hair neat and tidy, with little interference for them to knot in your sleep. Do not go to sleep with wet extensions!
- STRAIGHTENING AND STYLING
It is highly recommended to use a heat protectant on your own hair as well as the extensions to minimise heat damage from styling products. Limit the heat temperature on all styling tools to ensure it does not dry the extensions out!
- SWIMMING
When swimming with extensions, it is recommended to place hair in a pony tail and not in a bun. Prior to getting hair wet, wet hair down with tap water and apply conditioner followed by a plait
it is recommended to wash extensions immediately after swimming as salt water and chemicals found in swimming pools can decrease the longevity of hair extensions
